design ethics exploration
How might we translate ethical foresight analysis and similar frameworks from theory to practice?
where to begin…
Over the last few years I’ve been trying to figure out ways to combine my interests in philosophy, systems thinking, and design in a way that contributes to “good”. I think there are a lot of versions of what that “good” can be; from narrative/artistic expression to more justice oriented solutions in technology. I’ve been reading, collecting, and iterating upon various tools, methods, and research initiatives across disciplines, in the hopes of creating a foundation for collaboration across industries.
This has led me to create an open figma file focused on how to translate ethical and justice-oriented thinking to practical design (broadly speaking). My hope is that this can be an open resource for people to use and improve especially as the line between digital and physical life continues to blur.

Thinking in Systems
Donella Meadow’s book Thinking in Systems as well as her essay on Leverage Points has been a major influence in my attempts to understand impact, and how to avoid unconsidered consequences in design.
Design Justice
MIT Press aptly describes Sasha Costanza-Chock’s Design Justice is “An exploration of how design might be led by marginalized communities, dismantle structural inequality, and advance collective liberation and ecological survival.”

I will do my best to keep the figma file up to date with resources, references, and inspiration.
